Writing in the Dark

Contrary to popular belief, the pages
\nin your book of life are not numbered. There are, however,
\nreckonings, and many parenthetical days. And while the writing
\nis sometimes Joycean, filled with commas and question marks,
\nrun-on sentences with so many reiterated moments,
\nit is serviceable and somehow legible
\nafter the fact. There are moths nibbling the previous
\nchapters, and the abiding wind is always
\nflipping through the pages losing your place,
\nso be sure to keep your book in a safe, dry place.
\nYour propensity for nouns is to be expected,
\nyour verbs, strident and agile, are often also nouns,
\nand as much as you would like to believe otherwise,
\nthere are no errors\u2014neither to the imagination
\nor the days when you ignore the margins.
\nThe wolf and the deer running throughout do so
\non moral grounds. The horizon is far-minded, time
\nephemeral. Don\u2019t even ask about grammar or tenses.
\nWhen you go, the world will keep writing
\nyour story. In lieu of this, meander more, study
\nthe pedagogy of caterpillars and butterflies, dabble
\nin novel things, use as many flourishes
\nas you want, use inhabited initials at the beginnings
\nof paragraphs, secretly write under your blanket
\nat night. You are, after all, heliocentric,
\ngiving just enough light to write in the dark.<\/p>\n
