Fading<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Windchimes ring, giving tones to the day,<\/p>\n

which gradually return to the wind, and disappear<\/p>\n

into the sky.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A couple yards over, someone mows the lawn,<\/p>\n

and the deep, low whirr becomes summer for a few<\/p>\n

drifting moments, and then, shuts off, and the sound<\/p>\n

lingers briefly in the trees, with the scent of freshly cut grass,<\/p>\n

where they both gradually disappear into the sky.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My voice blends with my guitar, singing my heart<\/p>\n

to my aloes and spider plants, and the books of poetry<\/p>\n

across the room, only to float away, gradually disappearing<\/p>\n

into the tables and chairs and kettles.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I will stop speaking one day, and the sounds of my last words<\/p>\n

will lift to the ceiling and shimmer through the window shades<\/p>\n

and out, called, to who knows where.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We all spill gradually into our lives, and leave them<\/p>\n

the same way\u2014emptying into time, and perhaps<\/p>\n

to reassemble, in a way, into someone\u2019s memory,<\/p>\n

until we gradually fade from there too, fading with their fading,<\/p>\n

absorbed by the great silence, disappearing, gradually,<\/p>\n

into the sky.<\/p>\n
