{"id":2283,"date":"2020-09-22T12:42:31","date_gmt":"2020-09-22T16:42:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewonderchildblog.com\/?p=2283"},"modified":"2020-09-22T12:42:31","modified_gmt":"2020-09-22T16:42:31","slug":"over-trails-of-the-sea-a-collage-poem-by-jennifer-angelina-petro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewonderchildblog.com\/?p=2283","title":{"rendered":"Over Trails of the Sea,  A Collage Poem,  By  Jennifer Angelina Petro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Over Trails of the Sea<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A Collage Poem<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">By<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Jennifer Angelina Petro<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">(Using words and phrases from \u201cThe Man Who Saw Tomorrow,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Prophesies of Nostradamos, translated by Erika Cheetham, 1973, along with my own.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like a shipwreck trying to hold on<\/p>\n<p>to the reef, I lean this way and that.<\/p>\n<p>Sooner or later, you will see great changes\u2014<\/p>\n<p>that\u2019s what they tell me, but my eyes<\/p>\n<p>are open only to old fantasies and wishes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the river, raised by land and sea,<\/p>\n<p>The act has been done.\u00a0 Hidden in swampy marshes,<\/p>\n<p>a monster is born, wild with hunger, and it knows my name.<\/p>\n<p>It knows everything about me, knows I am trying<\/p>\n<p>to see the shore through the mist, through the dark,<\/p>\n<p>and he will wander far in his frenzy to find me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And yet, even with the Rubicon uncertain,<\/p>\n<p>a shadowy hope, which Providence scrounged<\/p>\n<p>to sustain, rises, lifts my face to the sky.\u00a0 The light<\/p>\n<p>is stupefying and marvelous\u2014the flashes of fire&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>I believe that in this night I have seen the sun,<\/p>\n<p>while the monster waits\u2014knows I am coming,<\/p>\n<p>knows I have moved closer to freedom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And then, my wings and feathers fall at my feet,<\/p>\n<p>and I know I must now allow myself to be carried<\/p>\n<p>safely through the sky by birds of the celestial palace,<\/p>\n<p>high away from the monster that will forever dog my steps.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I know a serpent has been placed on the shore.<\/p>\n<p>I know snakes surround the altar.\u00a0 I know<\/p>\n<p>there will be rains and frosts.\u00a0 I know the documents<\/p>\n<p>on which are written what I should do next<\/p>\n<p>are enclosed in fish, and that the secrets<\/p>\n<p>of my future are hidden in the heads of salmon,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>and yet, over the trails of the sea, a way opens,<\/p>\n<p>and I am placed gently down, brought<\/p>\n<p>to rebirth at the fortified harbor,<\/p>\n<p>where lighthouse lights come through thunder,<\/p>\n<p>to welcome me home.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over Trails of the Sea A Collage Poem By Jennifer Angelina Petro (Using words and phrases from \u201cThe Man Who Saw Tomorrow, The Prophesies of Nostradamos, translated by Erika Cheetham, 1973, along with my own.) &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Like a shipwreck trying to hold on to the reef, I lean this way and that.
