I wonder if when<\/p>\n
Jesus sat up in the tomb<\/p>\n
On the third day, he was<\/p>\n
Pulled suddenly alive<\/p>\n
By a catching breath\u2014<\/p>\n
A breath surprising even<\/p>\n
Unto himself?<\/p>\n
Did he sit for little<\/p>\n
Eternities listening to<\/p>\n
Silence\u2014or had<\/p>\n
Silence scattered at the sound<\/p>\n
Of the waiting angels<\/p>\n
Opening their wings?<\/p>\n
Whatever happened<\/p>\n
To the sand his feet touched<\/p>\n
As he stood?\u00a0 Is the dust<\/p>\n
Still in the mouth<\/p>\n
Of the cave?<\/p>\n
Did the little rocks and pebbles<\/p>\n
That trailed behind the hem<\/p>\n
Of his robe dragging over<\/p>\n
The ground, one day become<\/p>\n
Mountains?<\/p>\n
For all I know, the tomb<\/p>\n
Was always empty\u2014ever not<\/p>\n
Gestating a dead man.<\/p>\n
Perhaps neither it nor he ever<\/p>\n
Existed\u2014which seems most likely given<\/p>\n
Today.\u00a0 This Easter silence<\/p>\n
Finds us isolating in different parts<\/p>\n
Of one, great cave\u2014<\/p>\n
Behind make-shift masks<\/p>\n
Afraid to ever breathe<\/p>\n
Again.<\/p>\n
