The Darker the World Becomes<\/p>\n

Winter, I am here.<\/p>\n

I should be sleeping, like<\/p>\n

The bears and bees, and somewhere<\/p>\n

The bats.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yet, I am awake.\u00a0 And there is<\/p>\n

Darkness, and there is cold, and there is<\/p>\n

The silencing of snow, and yet,<\/p>\n

I am here, awake, and as best I can,<\/p>\n

A light, and as best I can\u2014descending.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The earth has been compressed\u2014<\/p>\n

Seeds and all manner of growing things\u2014<\/p>\n

Are pressed deep into the cold ground.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I am still walking.\u00a0 And through<\/p>\n

Winter\u2019s necessary darkness, I move,<\/p>\n

And as I do, striding with my little light,<\/p>\n

The darkness spreads, parts, like curtains,<\/p>\n

And with every step, the darkness gives way<\/p>\n

Illumined and warming towards spring.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t to say darkness is wrong,<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t to say I am savior or enlightened,<\/p>\n

It simply means I am awake, it simply means<\/p>\n

I have a job to do, it simply means<\/p>\n

My soul is in the right place, it simply means<\/p>\n

The darker the world becomes<\/p>\n

The brighter I will be.<\/p>\n
