It\u2019s amazing, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n
How our everyday speaking<\/p>\n
Voices can be elevated<\/p>\n
Instantaneously, into singing.<\/p>\n
Think of it\u2014one word<\/p>\n
You can speak, one word<\/p>\n
You can sing\u2014a sentence can<\/p>\n
Rise and fall in and out<\/p>\n
Of song like the invisible path<\/p>\n
Of a butterfly wings.<\/p>\n
I know, you might be<\/p>\n
Thinking\u2014And?<\/p>\n
To which I say:\u00a0 And everything!<\/p>\n
Everything is right there<\/p>\n
In that simple, effortless<\/p>\n
Reshaping of sound, of carrying joy<\/p>\n
On the breath from within you.<\/p>\n
Perhaps everything said should be sung,<\/p>\n
Perhaps every year that goes by<\/p>\n
Should be full of song, or,<\/p>\n
At very least long stretches<\/p>\n
Of each season\u2014Imagine that–<\/p>\n
Even if some songs are dirges, even if some songs<\/p>\n
Are sung on tip-toe just out of our range,<\/p>\n
Even if some songs<\/p>\n
Are in languages we do not understand,<\/p>\n
Even if some songs are screamed like ones<\/p>\n
In a punk band, even if some songs<\/p>\n
Are in three-part harmony,<\/p>\n
Even if some songs move us<\/p>\n
To tears, even if some songs<\/p>\n
Lift us into realms of glory–<\/p>\n
I think we should try it\u2014sing<\/p>\n
Every word for one day<\/p>\n
And see how much fun it could be<\/p>\n
Making little musicals<\/p>\n
While buying a cup of coffee,<\/p>\n
Or saying, hello while holding<\/p>\n
The door, or sending the kids<\/p>\n
Off to school, or arguing over<\/p>\n
Politics, or teaching in a classroom,<\/p>\n
Or giving a sermon, or while greeting<\/p>\n
A pet or spouse, or telling someone<\/p>\n
You love them forever.<\/p>\n
