At night, when our bodies<\/p>\n
Begin to slow down, and our eyelids<\/p>\n
Become heavy, we turn in,<\/p>\n
And our attention<\/p>\n
Recedes from the senses,<\/p>\n
And we move into ourselves and dream.<\/p>\n
And we all know dreaming<\/p>\n
Is just the soul saying what it wanted<\/p>\n
During the day but couldn\u2019t,<\/p>\n
And as we are drawn inwards,<\/p>\n
And our breathing drifts like it was meant to,<\/p>\n
And we rescind control over our bodies,<\/p>\n
And our lips part and our palms open,<\/p>\n
And our arms go this way and that,<\/p>\n
We begin catching z\u2019s\u2014the buzz<\/p>\n
Of fluorescent lights becomes the buzz of bees<\/p>\n
Making honey out of our disappointments,<\/p>\n
The hum of the fan of our laptops<\/p>\n
Becomes the hush of owl\u2019s wings,<\/p>\n
And we yield like this every day–<\/p>\n
Every day we relinquish the tenuous hold<\/p>\n
We have on our lives and surrender<\/p>\n
To the darkness living within us\u2014<\/p>\n
The selfsame darkness that holds the voice of desire–<\/p>\n
Speaking like a lighthouse to approaching ships,<\/p>\n
Speaking like the hummingbird daring us<\/p>\n
To try and follow where it goes,<\/p>\n
Speaking like moonlight on the river,<\/p>\n
Speaking like our soul bowing down before us<\/p>\n
Aching for us to listen.<\/p>\n
