A poem celebrating being trans<\/em><\/p>\n inspired by attending a workshop with Starhawk<\/em><\/p>\n By<\/p>\n Jennifer Angelina Petro<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the art of ritual<\/p>\n common, everyday things<\/p>\n take on new meaning.<\/p>\n The tree roots snaking<\/p>\n above the ground can<\/p>\n symbolize emergence<\/p>\n as well as determination<\/p>\n of will; the padlock pressed<\/p>\n into the grass by the grave<\/p>\n can mean secrets protected<\/p>\n forever; the strategically timed<\/p>\n coffee break which lets you<\/p>\n step into the sun, or the stone<\/p>\n you place in the center<\/p>\n of the meeting room table<\/p>\n while no one is looking<\/p>\n can both represent your ability<\/p>\n to live in truth—the solid, bed-rock<\/p>\n of truth, and both seamlessly blend<\/p>\n the magical with the logistical;<\/p>\n words and gestures translate intentions<\/p>\n and speak hidden heritages<\/p>\n between people not sharing a bloodline;<\/p>\n your every move can bind or loosen spirits;<\/p>\n every political action taken for good<\/p>\n and for the sake of children<\/p>\n will always be the highest form<\/p>\n of ritual; and this body—<\/p>\n this transformation of the mundane<\/p>\n feminine and the mundane masculine<\/p>\n into magical possibilities, declares<\/p>\n that spirit cloaked in flesh manifests<\/p>\n every need, every desire, every foundational<\/p>\n truth into being, into living wonder,<\/p>\n into the sacred space of what is<\/p>\n and what can be.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n
