Where I Belong<\/p>\n

Sitting in my one room efficiency\u2014a place I have come<\/p>\n
To call, my burrow, I find myself<\/p>\n
Looking back at memories of my life<\/p>\n
And what I see are little trails\u2014<\/p>\n
Soundless except my mind gives them sound\u2014<\/p>\n
Little trails that veer off into woods<\/p>\n
Or branch out into other trails–<\/p>\n
They show events and conversations\u2014<\/p>\n
Happening right there in the path\u2014<\/p>\n
People emerge from the tall grass,<\/p>\n
Say their lines, then disappear once again back<\/p>\n
Into the field, and as I think of these memories<\/p>\n
Some rise around bends, like mountains,<\/p>\n
Others like bodies of water, and still others<\/p>\n
Like wide valleys of snow, and I realize<\/p>\n
I am not really looking back, but forward\u2014<\/p>\n
Looking for where the trails lead, if in fact<\/p>\n
They lead anywhere\u2014<\/p>\n
For the very idea of going from here to there\u2014<\/p>\n
Of starting out and then winding up someplace\u2014<\/p>\n
Of following the trajectory of an event–<\/p>\n
Suddenly seems effortlessly silly.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Where am I going?\u00a0 What gives me the right<\/p>\n
To go even imagine I am going anywhere?<\/p>\n
Why do I suppose that this life leads somewhere<\/p>\n
Or to some time? Why do I need to know<\/p>\n
It has a happy ending?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Sitting here, alone, in the silence of my books,<\/p>\n
I stop roaming the trails and foothills<\/p>\n
Of memory, and instead, write this down–<\/p>\n
And suddenly the answer appears before me\u2014<\/p>\n
Ink spilling form forward leaving letters as trails<\/p>\n
And I am full of the emptiness that I have to<\/p>\n
Go anywhere.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Here, with you,<\/p>\n
Is where I belong.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
