I can\u2019t distinguish them<\/p>\n
From the moon-lit sequins<\/p>\n
On my skirt as I stride<\/p>\n
Through the damp grass<\/p>\n
Into the night-draped yard.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fireworks pop\u2014dull, crisp\u2014<\/p>\n
Somewhere people on blankets<\/p>\n
Look up, wondering how good<\/p>\n
The finale will be (it is always so<\/p>\n
Sudden\u2014leaving the scent of sulphur<\/p>\n
And wisps of smoke to dissolve<\/p>\n
Very anti-climatically<\/p>\n
Into the sky).<\/p>\n

Fire consumes light for a living.<\/p>\n
I long to turn and run<\/p>\n
Through the black hole of my life,<\/p>\n
And plunge head-first<\/p>\n
