Thank goodness Eve had the good sense<\/p>\n
To follow her hunger\u2014to touch sweetness<\/p>\n
And bring it to her lips;<\/p>\n
Thank goodness Eve understood perishing<\/p>\n
In return for gaining wisdom<\/p>\n
Was well worth the extinguishing;<\/p>\n
Thank goodness Eve saw rules made by cowards<\/p>\n
Were meant to be broken;<\/p>\n
Thank goodness Eve was open minded enough<\/p>\n
To talk with a serpent–to reason and to know<\/p>\n
Desire is holy and so is nakedness;<\/p>\n
Thank goodness Eve did not judge by appearances<\/p>\n
And instead saw the light in the serpent\u2019s eyes;<\/p>\n
Thank goodness Eve knew partaking in and sharing bliss at the risk<\/p>\n
Of losing it all was delicious and full of grace;<\/p>\n
Thank goodness Eve walked out of that garden\u2014<\/p>\n
Left being controlled by fear<\/p>\n
And a patriarchal god<\/p>\n
Behind her, and became one of us\u2014<\/p>\n
A sister, a daughter, a mother, a woman\u2014<\/p>\n
Thank goodness Eve took paradise back<\/p>\n
By living deeply with the earth<\/p>\n
And the moon, and community, and her own soul;<\/p>\n
Thank goodness Eve understood\u2014once–and for all\u2014<\/p>\n
That the knowledge of good and evil<\/p>\n
Was different from the actions of good and evil–<\/p>\n
That the ability to think for oneself<\/p>\n
Did not imprison, did not condemn–<\/p>\n
It liberated—liberated us to become the true goddesses<\/p>\n
We were meant to be–<\/p>\n
The kind that would gladly struggle<\/p>\n
To bring heaven down and share it with the earth\u2014<\/p>\n
Without condition, without thought–<\/p>\n
For all beings, for all time, for all dreams, for all passions–<\/p>\n
To rejoice and be fulfilled\u2014Thank goodness Eve<\/p>\n
Allowed divine indulgences to bloom from between her legs–<\/p>\n
Thank goodness we all stream from one undismayed woman<\/p>\n
Whose single act of rebellion\u2014inspires in us still today<\/p>\n
The single-minded desire to be free.<\/p>\n
