A Life Lived with Wings<\/p>\n

You see the opening from which<\/p>\n
wings unfurl swirling rainbows<\/p>\n
from which champagne colored eyes<\/p>\n
see a multitude of possibilities\u2014<\/p>\n
from that opening, from that wound<\/p>\n
that started like an insatiable itch,<\/p>\n
a mysterious longing for light–<\/p>\n
from that space and focus of pain<\/p>\n
bloomed the song of summer,<\/p>\n
birthed a patient hider,<\/p>\n
a thrower of voices, a winged symbol<\/p>\n
of resilience—staying underground<\/p>\n
for as long as needed\u2014<\/p>\n
seventeen years or forty-seven,<\/p>\n
nursing roots of trees, absorbing<\/p>\n
moon-drenched waters,<\/p>\n
clothing yourself in earth,<\/p>\n
until your back thrums, until<\/p>\n
what little, stumbling strength<\/p>\n
you have turns into grappling hooks,<\/p>\n
and you find yourself emerging<\/p>\n
from your own life\u2014climbing<\/p>\n
towards what you never knew<\/p>\n
you wanted, until you can say,<\/p>\n
like me, I am a walking opening,<\/p>\n
I am a living wound, I am<\/p>\n
the giving birth to myself, I am<\/p>\n
the one with rainbows in my eyes,<\/p>\n
I am the one who sings<\/p>\n
Deep into the sky, the story<\/p>\n
of a life lived with wings.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
