{"id":1147,"date":"2015-10-03T12:36:29","date_gmt":"2015-10-03T16:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewonderchildblog.com\/?p=1147"},"modified":"2015-10-03T12:52:25","modified_gmt":"2015-10-03T16:52:25","slug":"a-sunflower-asked-me-to-write-this-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewonderchildblog.com\/?p=1147","title":{"rendered":"A Sunflower Asked Me to Write This Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Sunflower Asked Me to Write This Poem<br \/>\nBy Jennifer Angelina Petro<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thewonderchildblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sunflower-seed-photo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1149\" src=\"http:\/\/thewonderchildblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sunflower-seed-photo-275x300.jpg\" alt=\"sunflower seed photo\" width=\"275\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thewonderchildblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sunflower-seed-photo-275x300.jpg 275w, http:\/\/thewonderchildblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sunflower-seed-photo.jpg 426w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sun-kissed,<br \/>\nSky-shawled,<br \/>\nSunflowers<br \/>\nLook very different<br \/>\nFrom the way<br \/>\nThey start out&#8211;<br \/>\nLittle seeds tucked in hypnotic<br \/>\nSpirals, and yet sunflowers<br \/>\nDo not need to prove they exist,<br \/>\nThey simply open<br \/>\nTheir palms to the light<br \/>\nAnd say: &#8220;Here I am,\u201d<br \/>\nAnd everyone sees them<br \/>\nAnd everyone understands<br \/>\nSeed and blossom are not<br \/>\nTwo opposite ends<br \/>\nOf a spectrum,<br \/>\nNeither seed nor flower choose<br \/>\nTo be what they are,<br \/>\nThey simply exist,<br \/>\nAnd everyone smiles<br \/>\nAnd says: \u201cBeautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You see<br \/>\nThe other morning<br \/>\nI stopped to marvel<br \/>\nAt a sunflower,<br \/>\nAnd as I stood admiring<br \/>\nThe strength to stand<br \/>\nSo tall, the dignity<br \/>\nTo shine so much light<br \/>\nFrom such a round, lantern face<br \/>\nI heard it speak:<br \/>\n\u201cI know you see me,<br \/>\nI know you see beauty<br \/>\nWhen you see me&#8211;<br \/>\nGo ahead embrace me.\u201d<br \/>\nAnd so I did.<br \/>\nWe swayed a moment<br \/>\nSlow dancing to the music<br \/>\nOf the early morning sun,<br \/>\nAnd as we did I heard it speak again:<br \/>\n\u201cI have moved on<br \/>\nFrom husk and shell,<br \/>\nI have moved on<br \/>\nFrom living hiding<br \/>\nIn the blind ground.<br \/>\nI am here now,<br \/>\nAnd you see me,<br \/>\nBut did you know<br \/>\nThere are those<br \/>\nWho do not believe<br \/>\nI exist?
