\nFireflies
\nYou have broken my heart again.
\nI see your staccato signals,
\nI know you are rogue stars
\nWho let go of their moorings and escaped.
\nOh how I long to be like you.<\/p>\n
I know caterpillars dissolve
\nInto a hiding place of their own making.
\nI know all about that.
\nWhat I don\u2019t know is: do they have faith in wings?
\nDo they believe they carry within themselves
\nA drop of air waiting to be freed?<\/p>\n
I see flowers blooming at night,
\nI see the pink and purple sunsets
\nThat were hiding all day behind the blue.
\nI know it is the coming darkness
\nCombined with dust and the disappearing sun
\nThat makes the watercolor skies.<\/p>\n
I hope when I am free of this cage\u2014
\nWhen I am not beholden to what anyone thinks or says
\nOr what the mirror has been telling me
\nAll these years\u2014I hope I will shine, like
\nA galaxy of fireflies on a hot summer night,
\nI hope I will dance among the flowers\u2014
\nWings fluttering flamboyantly, baptized
\nBy the clear, open light of day.
\nI hope when the stars of truth separate
\nFrom the backdrop void of lies
\nThat I will find a place among the trees
\nAnd dazzle the world.<\/p>\n
